The Governor of Vermont and the Vermont Department of Labor annually recognize Vermont based companies that have made outstanding achievements in Workplace Safety and Health. This award is the highest honor given by the State of Vermont to recognize an employer’s commitment to excellence in workplace safety and health.
Sponsored by the Governor’s office since 2005, the Workplace Safety and Health award categories include: small, medium, and large businesses of all types; municipalities and agricultural companies. It may also include special recognitions and added categories, such as most improved.
The Vermont Department of Labor will announce recipients during the Vermont Safety and Health Council Expo at the Doubletree by Hilton 1117 Williston Rd, South Burlington, VT 05403.
The Vermont Department of Labor is accepting nominations for the awards until September 15th, 2017. Any business (owner, manager, supervisor or employee) may self-nominate their business for this award. Please keep in mind that a workplace is not just in a fixed location, but can also be on the roadways, outdoor locations, or a temporary worksite.
The nomination must be supported by information that demonstrates outstanding workplace safety. Relevant nomination criteria include:
- Experience modification rate that is better than your industry or sector average
- Existence of an active safety committee
- A three-consecutive year history of no work fatalities or catastrophic injuries
- Additional evidence of notable safety, such as a significant number of days without a lost time injury
Once an employer has been nominated, the Vermont Department of Labor will send a letter to that employer notifying them of their nomination and may request additional documentation that demonstrates that company’s commitment to workplace safety and health. Past applicants are encouraged to apply again, providing new information.
